There are many options for recovering a crashed system before giving up and reformatting.  I will list more in future posts:

        Method 1:

          Using Rconsole command prompt

Server Error  C:\windows\systems32\config ….is corrupt or missing

Or General Blue Screen of death.

        1. Boot to OS CD in Recovery mode
        2. CD “\system volume information”
        3. CD into the _Restore folder (this may have a long appended {numbers}
        4. CD to any RP folders
        5. CD to snapshot folder
        6. Rename the _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM file to only SYSTEM
        7. Rename the _REGISTRY_USER_.DEFAULT to USER
        8. Copy those system files back to c:\windows\system32\config and replace file if it asks.
        9. Do the same with the SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE
        10. *This is a  “dirty” system restore of your registry files

Run this after a successful recovery to check for missing OS files.

If your computer keeps booting after your get the lsass.exe error, your security registry hive is corrupt.

        rename “c:\windows\sytem32\config

        \security” to security.bak

then copy c:\windows\system32\repair\security to the location above.

The MTU setting can be changed in Windows registry. It will not render your Windows unusable so you can always change it back.

In registry go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Inter faces

Find the subkey that matches your network adapter and add a new DWORD value called “MTU” with a decimal value of 1400 or less.
