Scope of Protection: Does the product protect from every threat?
The different threats include Viruses, Trojans, Worms, Spyware, Malware, and Rootkits. Below is a break down
of each:
Virus: The term virus is often used to describe a broad range of infections to include
Trojans, Worms, Spyware, Malware, and Rootkits but they are each different which is why they have their own
name. A virus by its original definition is typically an executable program that spreads from one
computer to another from one type of media or another like floppy disks, usb drives, CD or DVD,
even email. If a virus has access to a Network it can really spread quickly.
Trojan: Just like the Trojan Horse from which it gets its name, a Trojan virus looks safe and
appears to be legit which is the reason a user will allow on to their system. This type of virus works in
the back ground to create havoc on a systems performance or network ability. You may notice a huge lag on
your computer and not know why or think it is network related. Trojans normally go un-noticed. I
recommend scanning daily with updated signature files to check of the latest infections.
Spyware: This type of infection will track what you do and monitor a users computing.
Sometimes Spyware can log keystrokes and capture sensitive information and send that info to the hacker that
created it. Spyware can also monitor what the user does on the web and captures sensitive info in that
manner and again report the info to the creator of the program. Spyware can change computer settings and
cause strange behavior on the users web experience.
